Mangal Shobhajatra: A Living Heritage

One of the most significant cultural events hosted by Dhaka University is the Mangal Shobhajatra, a vibrant procession that takes place on the Bengali New Year’s Day (Pohela Boishakh). Recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, this procession showcases colorful, large-scale effigies, masks, and floats, symbolizing hope, prosperity, and unity. Celebrating Amar Ekushey and Language Movement

Dhaka University is also deeply involved in commemorating Amar Ekushey (21st February), the Language Movement Martyrs’ Day, with the traditional Probhat Ferry at dawn. This solemn procession, which starts from the university’s iconic “Aminul Haq” intersection, carries the voices of the nation, paying homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Bengali language.
