THE Impact Rankings

As Bangladesh’s first public university, the University of Dhaka (DU) has been a cornerstone in nation-building and public policy formulation. Nearly 60% of the country’s civil servants are DU alumni, and its graduates contribute significantly to national and multinational projects worldwide. DU’s strategic vision, mission, and objectives align closely with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), underscoring its commitment to creating a sustainable future for the next generation.

To document and showcase its SDG-related efforts, the university is developing a dedicated website that will serve as a centralized platform for information and initiatives. Recognizing the importance of global benchmarking, DU participated in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings in 2022, achieving an overall rank in the 401–600 band, with strong performances in SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), where it ranked in the 100–200 band.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic posed significant challenges and temporarily shifted institutional priorities, it also reinforced DU’s resilience and adaptability. Learning from this experience, the university has renewed its focus on the SDGs. A ranking committee, led by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Mamun Ahmed, has been formed to oversee preparations for the 2025 THE Impact Rankings.

Through its participation in these rankings, DU reaffirms its dedication to the SDGs and seeks to learn from global peers, enhancing its contributions to sustainable development and supporting Bangladesh’s national commitment to achieving the goals by 2030.
