Under the ‘Green Campus Clean Campus’ program, 64 students from various departments of the University of Dhaka have been appointed as paid volunteers for various welfare activities. Recently, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the University of Dhaka and Green Future Foundation Bangladesh with the aim of developing the university as a green, clean, and pollution-free model campus. Under this MoU, with the support of Green Future Foundation Bangladesh, 64 students from different departments of Dhaka University are working part-time in four shifts from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM. They are responsible for maintaining campus cleanliness and discipline, tree plantation and care, traffic management, and other welfare activities.

A seminar titled “Measurement of photo-neutron dose from medical linear accelerator in radiotherapy and associated risk of secondary cancer” was held at the Department of Biomedical Physics and Technology.

Health insurance for students is ongoing in the Department of Psychology. Under the Professor Dr. Nazrul Islam Trust Fund, financial assistance for underprivileged students has been ongoing since the 2023–2024 academic year. Efforts have been made to strengthen industry-academia collaboration for students’ mental health. Collaborative education and research initiatives are being strengthened with the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute (USA), University of Bath, and Bath Spa University (UK). A decision was made to launch a ‘Neuroscience Journal Club’ involving the department’s teachers and students.

The Department of Clinical Psychology organized a three-day mental health training titled “Psychosocial Training on Mental Health for HIV Service Providers.”

Under the World Bank’s HEAT Project (Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation Project), the provision of housing scholarships for students is currently in process. It is expected that undergraduate students admitted in the upcoming academic year will be eligible for these scholarships.

To initiate joint education and research programs, discussions were held between the President of the University of Calabria, Italy, and the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of Dhaka University.

A day-long seminar titled ‘Air Quality Research and Environmental Policy Discussion’ was held at the Faculty of Science, Dhaka University. Professors from Saint Louis University (USA), Associate Professors from McGill University (Canada), the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Stamford University, and professors from BRAC University presented separate research papers on air quality and pollution in Dhaka city.

Using its own technology, the Department of Biomedical Physics and Technology of Dhaka University will provide free services for the treatment of excessive hand and foot sweating and pain. The service will be available to the university’s teachers, students, staff, and the general public. This service will run for 15 days starting January 19. Interested individuals can register via a Google Form on the department’s website (www.bmpt.du.ac.bd). The department, along with the teacher and alumni-founded nonprofit organization “BIBIT,” has been providing these services for several years, using locally developed advanced technologies for treatment, enabling many recipients to lead normal lives.

‘IIT Day’ was celebrated to welcome new students and bid farewell to outgoing students at the Institute of Information Technology.

Discussions were held with U.S. Fulbright expert Dr. Albert James Arnold Jr. on the possibility of implementing a project titled ‘Maximizing Accreditation Scope and Ranking Potential’ to enhance the quality of education and research at Dhaka University. Under this project, international ranking, self-assessment, and research documentation guidance will be provided to the university’s teachers and researchers.

Discussions were held with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the private organization BIID Foundation on joint collaborative initiatives with Dhaka University to develop students as skilled human resources for building a prosperous new Bangladesh.

At the Institute of Statistical Research and Training, seminars were held on “Opportunities and Challenges in Single-Cell RNA-Seq: Revealing Biomarkers and Regulatory Networks in Early Brain Development” and “A Reflection on the Recent Development of the Subject Area of Statistics and Some Specific Issues of Concern for Further Research.”

A training workshop was organized at the Science Factory to enhance the skills of factory engineers, technicians, and staff, attended by about 30 participants. A brief video presentation on the factory’s operations was also shown.

The Department of Computer Science held two seminars titled “Starting a New Academic Research Project: A Set of Recommendations” and “Telco to TechCo: Emerging Technologies.”

As part of continuous programs to strengthen friendly relations through educational, research, and cultural exchange activities, a joint opera performance was organized with students of the Department of Theater and Performance Studies, Dhaka University, and artists from China’s Zhejiang Opera Research Center. To celebrate the Chinese New Year 2025 ‘Spring Festival,’ a Chinese theater troupe visited Bangladesh to perform opera in Dhaka and other locations, showcasing acrobatics, group dances, serpent dance, and other aesthetic performances. Dhaka University students presented various aspects of local theater through dramatic performance.

To strengthen industry-academia collaboration, a workshop titled “Reconsideration, Reorganization, Revival” was organized jointly by the Faculty of Fine Arts, the Netherlands Embassy, Art Bangla, and the Faculty of Fine Arts Academy. A collaborative art workshop was held involving the Printmaking and Crafts departments and the Circle Arts Trust. A day-long art camp was organized in front of the Zainul Gallery. As part of the ongoing Clean Campus program, students and student advisors of the Ceramics Department conducted special cleanliness activities. An educational tour titled ‘Peripheral Environment and Nature’ was organized for students of the Department of Eastern Art.

To ensure health services for students, the Department of Psychology continues its health insurance program. Additionally, an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Curriculum workshop, prepared following the University Grants Commission template, was held.

The proposal for the restructured Technical Assistance Project Proforma/Proposal (TAPP) under the project “Strengthening Research and Knowledge Management Capacity of the Department of Population Sciences, University of Dhaka” has been approved by the government.

The Nanotechnology Center organized a seminar titled ‘Nanorevolution in Drug Delivery and Electronics,’ discussing the potential of nanotechnology in medical science and physics. Emphasis was placed on public welfare through the application, expansion, and adaptation of modern nanotechnology across various industries and services. The Nanotechnology Center of Dhaka University is working to advance Bangladesh in nanotechnology-based research.

Discussions were held with the South Asia Coordinator of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) on collaborative programs for modernizing science laboratories, providing student scholarships, and improving medical services at Dhaka University.
