To expand and modernize the computer labs of five female halls at Dhaka University, computers were provided by the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology. In a ceremony at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building Auditorium, the Ministry’s Advisor handed over the computers to the hall provosts, with the Vice-Chancellor presiding. The five halls are: Rokeya Hall, Shamsun Nahar Hall, Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall, and Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall.

For the first time, a ‘Psychological Case Conference’ was held jointly by the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology, Dhaka University, and the Bangladesh Educational and Counseling Psychology Society (BECPs).

Rokeya Hall Unit Bondhon organized its freshman welcome and blood donor recognition program.

The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Dhaka University launched a 15-day training workshop titled ‘Training Program: Foundation Certificate in University Teaching and Learning.’ The Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the workshop, and 50 teachers from various departments participated.

A two-day seminar titled ‘The Spanish Language Situation in China’ was held at the Institute of Modern Languages, jointly organized by Dhaka University and the Embassy of Spain in Dhaka. The Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the seminar, and the Ambassador of Spain in Bangladesh attended as a distinguished guest.

The Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology conducted the 2023–2024 admission test for its MS in Educational Psychology and MS in Counseling Psychology programs. Out of 219 applicants competing for 30 seats, selected students receive one-and-a-half years of education under an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum. Any student with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from a recognized university or college can participate in this competitive admission process.

The Department of Microbiology organized two seminars:

• “Prevalence of Multidrug-Resistant Zoonotic Bacteria in Integrated Farm Samples with an Emphasis on Pathogenic Escherichia coli.”

• “Immunogenicity of an Inactivated Influenza Vaccine among Children and Pregnant Women in Rural Bangladesh.”

The Center on Budget and Policy of Dhaka University organized a seminar titled ‘Role and Capacity of Civic Organizations in Empowering Marginalized Communities.’ The Vice-Chancellor attended as the chief guest.

Discussions were held between the Vice-Chancellor and Syed Reza Mirmohammadi, Cultural Counselor of the Embassy of Iran, regarding strengthening ongoing joint education and research programs with Iranian universities, increasing faculty and student exchanges, and signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Shahid Beheshti University of Iran.

A day-long international symposium titled “Innovating for a Sustainable Future: Harnessing Science and Technology to Tackle Emerging Challenges” was organized jointly by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and the Bangladesh JSPS Alumni Association. The Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) attended as chief guest. The symposium featured five technical sessions, with faculty and researchers from Bangladesh and Japan presenting papers.

A seminar titled “Japan Foundation Indo-Pacific Partnership Program (JFIPP) Fellowship” was organized jointly by Dhaka University, Tokyo Pan-Asia Research Institute, and the Japan Foundation. The Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) attended as chief guest, and the Treasurer, Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, attended as special guest.

A scientific seminar titled “Addressing Psychological Problems among Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students after the July–August Movement in Bangladesh” was organized jointly by the Center for Research in Multidisciplinary (CRM), Dhaka University Research Society (DURS), and the Center for Psychological Health (CPH). The Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) attended as chief guest. The seminar highlighted that students involved in anti-discrimination movements and the July mass uprising are experiencing mental health issues. Data was collected from 375 students aged 20–25 in Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet, and Rajshahi, focusing on students who had participated in the movement for at least five days.

With support from the European Union, the Dhaka University Economic Research Bureau organized a roundtable discussion on ‘Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).’
