The English Department organized a seminar titled “The Road Taken and the Detours Ahead: Research and Career Directions”. Dr. Foyza Hasanath, a distinguished teacher and researcher from the University of Central Florida’s English Department, shared her research and professional experience, providing valuable guidance to students on future research and career planning. Additionally, 58 meritorious and underprivileged students were awarded scholarships and stipends from 18 scholarship funds, along with mentorship and tutorship certificates.

The Economics Study Center of the Economics Department organized a 3-day 6th Bangladesh Economics Summit. The Vice-Chancellor attended as chief guest. This summit’s theme was “Bangladesh in the Era of Reform: Roadmap for Sustainable Reform.” The summit was organized with the support of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), International Labour Organization (ILO), and International Growth Centre (IGC).

The Centre on Budget and Policy (CBP), Dhaka University, organized a five-day Spring School on Business and Human Rights at the Comilla Rural Development Academy (BARD) auditorium. The Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the workshop. Organized in collaboration with GIZ (Germany), ILO, the Danish Embassy in Bangladesh, the Swedish government, and Initiative for Global Solidarity (IGS), the workshop hosted 30 professionals from various public-private universities and organizations.
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being

A special lecture titled “Discovering COVID: The Beginning and Beyond” was organized at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building. Dutch virologist Professor Dr. Albert Osterhaus, one of the world’s leading virologists known for his work on SARS and CoV-1 and zoonotic pandemics, delivered the lecture. The Vice-Chancellor attended as chief guest, and the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) gave the welcome and closing remarks. Professor Osterhaus has more than 1,350 publications and several successful biotech initiatives.
SDG 6 & 11: Clean Water and Sustainable Cities

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, UNIDO, and PRAN RFL Group initiated the “Clean Green Campus for Development” program at the university. A preparatory meeting was held, chaired by the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic). The program includes a day-long workshop at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building on April 15, with certificate distribution, and a concluding and campus activation event on April 19 from 10 am to 1 pm. Attendees include the Ministry’s advisor, the Vice-Chancellor, and the Norwegian Ambassador in Bangladesh.

The “Clean Green Campus for Development” day-long workshop was held with the Vice-Chancellor as chief guest. Organized by Dhaka University with support from the Ministry of Environment, UNIDO, the Norwegian Embassy, and PRAN RFL Group, the workshop was divided into three sessions. The Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) presided over the opening and closing sessions. In the second session, around 400 students from Dhaka University, Dhaka Medical College, and BUET received training, and certificates were awarded by the Vice-Chancellor.

To raise awareness on nature, biodiversity, and forest conservation and as part of a campus afforestation program, International Forest Day was observed with tree plantation at Smriti Chironton Chottro, discussion sessions, and colorful rallies on campus.

On the occasion of International Forest Day, the Department of Botany, with initiative from the Bangladesh Botanical Society, organized a seminar titled “Forest and Food” in the department auditorium. The Vice-Chancellor attended as chief guest.
SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

The Vice-Chancellor met with representatives of Power-China Resources Limited. During the discussion, the company expressed interest in investing in various areas of Dhaka University. The Vice-Chancellor mentioned limited resources, highlighting insufficient facilities for residential halls, medical centers, and modern research equipment. He welcomed the company’s interest in investment.

ইংরেজি বিভাগ “The Road Taken and the Detours Ahead: Research and Career Directions” শীর্ষক একটি সেমিনার আয়োজন করে। ইউনিভার্সিটি অব সেন্ট্রাল ফ্লোরিডার ইংরেজি বিভাগের বিশিষ্ট শিক্ষক ও গবেষক ড. ফয়েজা হাসানাত তাঁর গবেষণা ও পেশাগত অভিজ্ঞতা শেয়ার করেন এবং শিক্ষার্থীদের ভবিষ্যতের গবেষণা ও ক্যারিয়ার পরিকল্পনা নিয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ পরামর্শ প্রদান করেন। এ ছাড়াও, বিভাগের পক্ষ থেকে ৫৮ জন মেধাবী ও অসচ্ছল শিক্ষার্থীকে ১৮টি স্কলারশিপ ফান্ড থেকে অ্যাওয়ার্ড ও স্টাইপেন্ড প্রদান এবং মেন্টরশিপ ও টিউটরশীপ সনদপত্র প্রদান করা হয়।

অর্থনীতি বিভাগের শিক্ষার্থীদের ক্লাব ‘ইকনোমিকস স্টাডি সেন্টার’-এর উদ্যোগে ৩-দিনব্যাপী ষষ্ঠ বাংলাদেশ ইকোনমিকস সামিট অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। উপাচার্য প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন। সামিটের প্রতিপাদ্য ছিল “সংস্কারের ক্রান্তিকালে বাংলাদেশ: দীর্ঘস্থায়ী সংস্কারের রোডম্যাপ।” সেন্টার ফর পলিসি ডায়ালগ (সিপিডি), আন্তর্জাতিক শ্রম সংস্থা (আইএলও) এবং আন্তর্জাতিক প্রবৃদ্ধি সেন্টার (আইজিসি)-এর সহযোগিতায় সামিটটি অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।

ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় সেন্টার অন বাজেট অ্যান্ড পলিসি (সিবিপি) কুমিল্লার পল্লী উন্নয়ন একাডেমি (বার্ড) মিলনায়তনে ‘স্প্রিং স্কুল অন বিজনেস অ্যান্ড হিউম্যান রাইটস’ শীর্ষক পাঁচ দিনব্যাপী প্রশিক্ষণ কর্মশালা আয়োজন করে। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উদ্বোধন করেন। জার্মান উন্নয়ন সংস্থা জিআইজেড, আন্তর্জাতিক শ্রম সংস্থা (আইএলও), বাংলাদেশের ডেনমার্ক দূতাবাস, সুইডিশ সরকার ও ইনিশিয়েটিভ ফর গ্লোবাল সলিডারিটি (আইজেএস)-এর সহযোগিতায় বিভিন্ন সরকারি-বেসরকারি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এবং সংস্থার ৩০ জন পেশাজীবী অংশগ্রহণ করেন।

নবাব নওয়াব আলী চৌধুরী সিনেট ভবনে ডাচ ভাইরাসবিদ অধ্যাপক ড. আলবার্ট অস্টারহাউস-এর ‘Discovering Covid: The Beginning and Beyond’ শীর্ষক বিশেষ বক্তৃতা আয়োজন করা হয়। বিশ্বখ্যাত ভাইরোলজিস্ট অধ্যাপক ড. আলবার্ট অস্টারহাউস, যিনি SARS ও CoV-1 আবিষ্কার এবং জুনোটিক মহামারী বিষয়ক কাজের জন্য পরিচিত, এই বক্তৃতা দেন। উপাচার্য প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন এবং প্রো-ভাইস চ্যান্সেলর (শিক্ষা) স্বাগত ও সমাপনী বক্তব্য দেন। অধ্যাপক Osterhaus-এর ১,৩৫০টির বেশি প্রকাশনা রয়েছে এবং তিনি বেশ কয়েকটি সফল বায়োটেক উদ্যোগ নিয়েছেন।
SDG 6 & 11: পরিচ্ছন্নতা ও টেকসই শহর

পরিবেশ, বন ও জলবায়ু পরিবর্তন মন্ত্রণালয়, ইউনিডো এবং প্রাণ আরএফএল গ্রুপের সহযোগিতায় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ক্যাম্পাসে ‘উন্নয়নের স্বার্থে পরিচ্ছন্ন সবুজ ক্যাম্পাস’ কার্যক্রমের উদ্যোগ গ্রহণ করা হয়। প্রো-ভাইস চ্যান্সেলর (শিক্ষা) সভার সভাপতিত্ব করেন। কর্মসূচির অংশ হিসেবে ১৫ এপ্রিল নবাব নওয়াব আলী চৌধুরী সিনেট ভবন মিলনায়তনে এক দিনব্যাপী কর্মশালা ও সার্টিফিকেট বিতরণ এবং ১৯ এপ্রিল সকাল ১০টা থেকে দুপুর ১টা পর্যন্ত সমাপনী ও ক্যাম্পাস সক্রিয়করণ অনুষ্ঠান অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। অনুষ্ঠানে পরিবেশ মন্ত্রণালয়ের উপদেষ্টা, উপাচার্য এবং বাংলাদেশের নরওয়ের রাষ্ট্রদূত উপস্থিত থাকবেন।

‘উন্নয়নের স্বার্থে পরিচ্ছন্ন সবুজ ক্যাম্পাস’ শীর্ষক দিনব্যাপী কর্মশালা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। উপাচার্য প্রধান অতিথি ছিলেন। পরিবেশ, বন ও জলবায়ু পরিবর্তন মন্ত্রণালয়, ইউনিডো, নরওয়ের দূতাবাস ও প্রাণ আরএফএল গ্রুপের সহযোগিতায় ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এই কর্মশালার আয়োজন করে। কর্মশালাটি তিনটি পর্বে বিভক্ত ছিল। উদ্বোধনী ও সমাপনী পর্বে প্রো-ভাইস চ্যান্সেলর (শিক্ষা) সভাপতিত্ব করেন। দ্বিতীয় পর্বে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, ঢাকা মেডিকেল ও বুয়েটের প্রায় ৪০০ শিক্ষার্থী প্রশিক্ষণ গ্রহণ করেন এবং উপাচার্য তাদের হাতে সনদ বিতরণ করেন।

প্রকৃতি, জীববৈচিত্র্য ও বন সংরক্ষণে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধি ও ক্যাম্পাসে বনায়ন কর্মসূচির অংশ হিসেবে স্মৃতি চিরন্তন চত্বরে গাছের চারা রোপণ, আলোচনা পর্ব এবং ক্যাম্পাসে রঙিন র্যালির মাধ্যমে আন্তর্জাতিক বন দিবস পালন করা হয়।

আন্তর্জাতিক বন দিবস উপলক্ষ্যে বাংলাদেশ বোটানিক্যাল সোসাইটি’র উদ্যোগে উদ্ভিদবিজ্ঞান বিভাগ মিলনায়তনে ‘বন ও খাদ্য’ শীর্ষক সেমিনার অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। উপাচার্য প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
SDG 7: সাশ্রয়ী ও পরিচ্ছন্ন শক্তি

ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্যের সঙ্গে পাওয়ার-চায়না রিসোর্সেস লিমিটেডের প্রতিনিধি দল সাক্ষাৎ করেন। আলোচনায় তারা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বিভিন্ন খাতে বিনিয়োগের আগ্রহ প্রকাশ করেন। উপাচার্য সীমিত সম্পদের বিষয় উল্লেখ করেন, বিশেষ করে ছাত্র-ছাত্রীদের আবাসিক হল, মেডিকেল সেন্টার ও আধুনিক গবেষণার যন্ত্রপাতি সংকটের কথা বলেন। উপাচার্য বিনিয়োগের আগ্রহকে স্বাগত জানান।
