UNESCO Chair Established at University of Dhaka
A UNESCO Chair on “Inclusion in Higher Education Systems” has been established at the University of Dhaka. This is part of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)’s UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme. Globally, over 1,000 UNESCO Chairs exist across universities and research institutions in 125 countries, facilitating knowledge and experience exchange among institutions to contribute to societal development.
A memorandum of understanding has already been signed between the University of Dhaka and UNESCO to establish this Chair. The Vice-Chancellor of the University and Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions. The Chair will conduct research, education, training, community engagement, and policy dialogues aimed at inclusive policies, equality, and sustainable development in higher education.
Key Objectives of the Chair:
• Enhance teacher capacity through training courses on inclusive education and equality.
• Promote research and publications on inclusion in higher education.
• Facilitate knowledge exchange through discussions, seminars, and webinars involving student participation.

Department of Zoology Receives National Environment Conservation Award
The Department of Zoology at the University of Dhaka has been awarded the National Environment Conservation Award for its exceptional contribution to wildlife and biodiversity conservation as well as related education and research. The award was presented at the Bangladesh-China Friendship International Conference Center by an advisor from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The department chair received the award on behalf of the department.

World Environment Day Celebrated
On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Arboriculture Center organized a seminar titled “Avoid Plastic Use, Reduce Pollution, Build a Plastic-Free Green Campus.” The Vice-Chancellor attended the seminar as the chief guest. The seminar was organized in collaboration with the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Law, the Environment Council, and the Green Future Foundation.
Following the seminar, a rally was conducted with the participation of teachers and students, and native tree saplings were planted in the mall premises.

Pre-Budget Seminar at University of Dhaka
The Business Research Bureau (BRB) of the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka, organized a pre-budget seminar titled “Pathway towards Budget Reform 2025-26.” The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) attended as the chief guest. Renowned economists, young researchers, and students of the University presented papers at the seminar.
The seminar emphasized increasing allocations for education and health to improve human resources, investing in technical and vocational training, creating employment opportunities for youth and marginalized communities, strengthening poverty reduction and social safety net programs, ensuring accountability in financial matters, promoting transparency in budget implementation, adopting digital governance, and enhancing youth participation.

Scholarships Awarded to Economics Students at University of Dhaka
Two meritorious students of the Department of Economics were awarded the “University of Dhaka Economics 1976 Memorial Trust Fund Scholarship.” The recipients were Md. Tanvir Mahtab Wadud and Ms. Hajera Khatun Maria. The Vice-Chancellor handed over the scholarship checks to the students at a ceremony in the Vice-Chancellor’s office.
The trust fund was established by the 1976 batch of Economics students to provide scholarships to underprivileged students in the 1st year of the undergraduate program in the Department of Economics.

Dr. Salma Arju Sports Trust Fund Established
A new trust fund, “Dr. Salma Arju Sports Trust Fund,” has been established to provide scholarships to underprivileged, talented athletes at the University of Dhaka. Dr. Salma Arju, Deputy Director of the Physical Education Center, handed over a check of 1 million BDT to the Vice-Chancellor to establish the fund.
From the fund’s revenue, four underprivileged, talented athletes from the 1st and 2nd year of the undergraduate program will receive scholarships annually.

Measures Against Sexual Harassment and Abuse at University of Dhaka
Following post-mass-movement awareness against discrimination, the University of Dhaka administration has taken multiple effective initiatives to prevent sexual harassment and abuse. As part of these efforts, the Sexual Harassment Investigation Committee has been reconstituted.
The reconstituted Central Committee against Sexual Harassment is chaired by Professor Dr. Upama Kabir, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. Other members include:

ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে ইউনেস্কো চেয়ার স্থাপিত
ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে “Inclusion in Higher Education Systems” শীর্ষক একটি ইউনেস্কো চেয়ার প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়েছে। এটি জাতিসংঘের শিক্ষা, বিজ্ঞান ও সংস্কৃতি বিষয়ক সংস্থা (UNESCO)-এর UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme-এর অংশ। বিশ্বজুড়ে ১২৫টি দেশের বিভিন্ন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ও গবেষণা প্রতিষ্ঠানে ১ হাজারেরও বেশি ইউনেস্কো চেয়ার রয়েছে। এর মাধ্যমে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ও গবেষণা প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলোর মধ্যে জ্ঞান ও অভিজ্ঞতা বিনিময় হয়, যা সমাজের উন্নয়নে অবদান রাখতে উৎসাহিত করে।
এই চেয়ার প্রতিষ্ঠার লক্ষ্যে ইতোমধ্যেই ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এবং ইউনেস্কোর মধ্যে একটি সমঝোতা স্মারক স্বাক্ষরিত হয়েছে। ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য এবং ইউনেস্কো সংস্থার মহাপরিচালক ওদ্র্রে আজুলে (Audrey Azoulay) নিজ নিজ প্রতিষ্ঠানের পক্ষে চুক্তিতে স্বাক্ষর করেন। চেয়ারটি উচ্চশিক্ষায় অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক নীতি, সমতা ও টেকসই উন্নয়নের লক্ষ্যে গবেষণা, শিক্ষা, প্রশিক্ষণ, কমিউনিটি সম্পৃক্ততা এবং নীতিনির্ধারণী সংলাপ পরিচালনা করবে।
চেয়ারের মূল লক্ষ্যগুলো হলোঃ
• অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক শিক্ষা ও সমতা বিষয়ে প্রশিক্ষণ কোর্সের মাধ্যমে শিক্ষকদের দক্ষতা বৃদ্ধি করা।
• উচ্চশিক্ষায় অন্তর্ভুক্তি নিয়ে গবেষণা ও প্রকাশনায় উৎসাহিত করা।
• শিক্ষার্থীদের অংশগ্রহণের সুযোগ তৈরি করে আলোচনা সভা, সেমিনার ও ওয়েবিনারের মাধ্যমে জ্ঞান বিনিময় বিস্তৃত করা।

বন্যপ্রাণী ও জীববৈচিত্র্য সংরক্ষণ এবং এ বিষয়ক শিক্ষা ও গবেষণায় বিশেষ অবদানের স্বীকৃতিস্বরূপ প্রতিষ্ঠান ক্যাটাগরিতে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রাণিবিদ্যা বিভাগ এ বছর জাতীয় পুরস্কার লাভ করেছে। বাংলাদেশ-চীন মৈত্রী আন্তর্জাতিক সম্মেলন কেন্দ্রে আয়োজিত এক অনুষ্ঠানে পরিবেশ, বন ও জলবায়ু পরিবর্তন মন্ত্রণালয়ের উপদেষ্টা এ পুরস্কার হস্তান্তর করেন। ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রাণিবিদ্যা বিভাগের পক্ষে বিভাগীয় চেয়ারপার্সন এই পুরস্কার গ্রহণ করেন।

বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবস উদযাপন
বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবস উপলক্ষ্যে আরবরিকালচার সেন্টারের উদ্যোগে ‘প্লাস্টিক ব্যবহার বর্জন করি, দূষণ ও প্লাস্টিক মুক্ত সবুজ ক্যাম্পাস গড়ি’ শীর্ষক এক সেমিনার অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে। উপাচার্য সেমিনারে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন। ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় বিজ্ঞান অনুষদ, আইন অনুষদ, পরিবেশ সংসদ এবং গ্রিন ফিউচার ফাউন্ডেশনের সহযোগিতায় এই সেমিনার আয়োজন করা হয়। সেমিনার শেষে শিক্ষক ও শিক্ষার্থীদের অংশগ্রহণে এক র্যালি বের করা হয়। পরে মল চত্বরে বেশ কিছু দেশীয় গাছের চারা রোপণ করা হয়।

ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে প্রাক-বাজেট সেমিনার
ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় বিজনেস স্টাডিজ অনুষদের ব্যবসায় গবেষণা ব্যুরো (বিবিআর) ‘Pathway towards Budget Reform 2025-26’ শীর্ষক এক প্রাক-বাজেট সেমিনার আয়োজন করে। প্রো-ভাইস চ্যান্সেলর (প্রশাসন) সেমিনারে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন। সেমিনারে বিশিষ্ট অর্থনীতিবিদ এবং ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের তরুণ গবেষক ও শিক্ষার্থীগণ প্রবন্ধ উপস্থাপন করেন।
সেমিনারে মানবসম্পদ উন্নয়নে শিক্ষা ও স্বাস্থ্য খাতে বরাদ্দ বৃদ্ধি, কারিগরি ও কর্মমুখী শিক্ষা-প্রশিক্ষণে বিনিয়োগ বৃদ্ধি, যুব ও প্রান্তিক জনগোষ্ঠীর জন্য কর্মসংস্থান সৃষ্টি, দরিদ্রতা হ্রাস ও সামাজিক নিরাপত্তা নেটওয়ার্ক কর্মসূচি জোরদার, আর্থিক খাতে জবাবদিহিতা নিশ্চিত এবং বাজেট বাস্তবায়ন প্রক্রিয়ায় স্বচ্ছতা, ডিজিটাল গভর্নেন্স ও যুব সমাজের অংশগ্রহণের ওপর গুরুত্বারোপ করা হয়।

ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় অর্থনীতি বিভাগের দু’জন মেধাবী শিক্ষার্থীকে ‘ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় অর্থনীতি ১৯৭৬ স্মৃতি ট্রাস্ট ফান্ড বৃত্তি’ প্রদান করা হয়েছে। বৃত্তিপ্রাপ্তরা হলেন মো. তানভীর মাহতাব ওয়াদুদ এবং মোছা. হাজেরা খাতুন মারিয়া। উপাচার্যের সভাকক্ষে আয়োজিত এক অনুষ্ঠানে উপাচার্য প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত থেকে শিক্ষার্থীদের হাতে বৃত্তির চেক তুলে দেন।
উল্লেখ্য, অর্থনীতি বিভাগের ১ম বর্ষ আন্ডারগ্র্যাজুয়েট প্রোগ্রামে অধ্যয়নরত অসচ্ছল শিক্ষার্থীদের বৃত্তি প্রদানের লক্ষ্যে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় অর্থনীতি বিভাগের ১৯৭৬ ব্যাচের শিক্ষার্থীরা এই ট্রাস্ট ফান্ড গঠন করেন।

ড. সালমা আরজু ক্রীড়া ট্রাস্ট ফান্ড গঠন
ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে অধ্যয়নরত অসচ্ছল প্রতিভাবান ক্রীড়াবিদদের বৃত্তি প্রদানের লক্ষ্যে ‘ড. সালমা আরজু ক্রীড়া ট্রাস্ট ফান্ড’ শীর্ষক নতুন একটি ট্রাস্ট ফান্ড গঠন করা হয়েছে। এই ট্রাস্ট ফান্ড গঠনের লক্ষ্যে শারীরিক শিক্ষা কেন্দ্রের উপ-পরিচালক ড. সালমা আরজু ১০ লাখ টাকার একটি চেক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্যের কাছে হস্তান্তর করেন। এই ট্রাস্ট ফান্ডের আয় থেকে প্রতিবছর আন্ডারগ্র্যাজুয়েট প্রোগ্রামের ১ম ও ২য় বর্ষে অধ্যয়নরত ৪ জন অসচ্ছল প্রতিভাবান ক্রীড়াবিদকে বৃত্তি প্রদান করা হবে।

ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে যৌন নিপীড়ন ও হয়রানি প্রতিরোধ
গণঅভ্যুত্থান পরবর্তী বৈষম্যবিরোধী চেতনার আলোকে অংশীজনদের পরামর্শক্রমে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রশাসন যৌন নিপীড়ন ও যৌন হয়রানি প্রতিরোধে একাধিক কার্যকর উদ্যোগ গ্রহণ করেছে। এর অংশ হিসেবে একইসঙ্গে যৌন নিপীড়ন সংক্রান্ত তদন্ত কমিটি পুনর্গঠন করা হয়েছে। পুনর্গঠিত যৌন নিপীড়নবিরোধী কেন্দ্রীয় কমিটির আহ্বায়ক হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করছেন ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং ও টেকনোলজি অনুষদের ডিন অধ্যাপক ড. উপমা কবির। কমিটির অন্য সদস্যরা হলেন:
