Preamble

The University of Dhaka is committed to reducing inequalities within and beyond its campus by promoting inclusive education, equitable access to resources, and evidence-based public engagement. As a leading public university in Bangladesh, the institution serves students from diverse socio-economic, geographic, cultural, and religious backgrounds, many of whom are first-generation learners or come from economically disadvantaged communities. Ensuring equal opportunity in access to higher education and campus services remains a central institutional priority.

The university provides subsidised tuition, affordable residential facilities, and accessible food services to minimise economic barriers to participation in higher education. Support mechanisms, including emergency assistance, academic guidance, and counselling services, are in place to ensure that financial hardship, disability, or social disadvantage does not hinder students’ academic progress. Inclusive campus practices also accommodate cultural and religious diversity, ensuring equitable treatment for all members of the university community.

Beyond campus, faculty members contribute to national and regional discourse on inequality, social protection, economic inclusion, public health, and sustainable development. Through research, policy advisory roles, community engagement, and capacity-building initiatives, the university supports efforts to reduce disparities in income, access to services, and development opportunities across Bangladesh.

By integrating inclusive education policies, student and staff support systems, and public engagement initiatives, the University of Dhaka advances the objectives of SDG 10 and contributes to the broader national goal of reducing inequalities in all forms.
