Preamble

The University of Dhaka (DU), established under the Dhaka University Order 1973, is a statutory public university with legal obligations to uphold fairness, welfare, equal opportunity, and labor protections for all categories of employees. DU’s employment system follows the Bangladesh Constitution, University Statutes, and national labor legislation, ensuring that all faculty, officers, staff, and contract workers work under transparent, accountable, and equitable conditions.

As one of the largest public-sector employers in Bangladesh—hosting over 6,500 employees—the University of Dhaka plays a critical national role in shaping labor standards, supporting economic mobility, and modelling workplace justice. The following SDG 8 evidence demonstrates DU’s robust institutional commitment to decent work, workers’ rights, gender equality, welfare benefits, and dignified employment systems.
