Preamble

The University of Dhaka (DU), established under the Dhaka University Order 1973, carries statutory responsibilities as a public university to safeguard the physical and mental well-being of students, faculty, officers, staff, and the wider community. With over 40,000 students, 6,500+ employees, and millions of annual visitors to its open campus, DU functions as a crucial public health ecosystem embedded in the heart of Dhaka city.

Through its medical facilities, counselling ecosystem, disaster-response units, mental-health services, research partnerships, and public outreach activities, DU contributes directly to SDG 3: Good Health & Well-Being, national public-health strengthening, and Bangladesh’s global commitments to the WHO, COP28 health agenda, and the National Health Policy (2011; updated 2023).

As the largest and oldest public university in Bangladesh with a 24/7 medical centre, dedicated mental-health ecosystem, and national-level public health research partnerships, Dhaka University operates as one of South Asia’s most influential university-led public health hubs.
