SDG 4: Quality Education

1. Eight students from various departments under the Faculty of Biological Sciences have received the 'Ayesha-Amirul Trust Fund Scholarship'. The Vice-Chancellor handed over the scholarship cheques to the students as the Chief Guest. The scholarship recipients are: Md. Zakaria Islam and Md. Habibur Rahman (1st year, Department of Soil, Water and Environment), Jidni Hosen Bonya (1st year, Department of Botany), Atia Sinha Rashni (1st year, Department of Zoology), Md. Shahriar Sadik (2nd year, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology), Habiba Islam (2nd year, Department of Psychology), Mayeda Jannat Mithila (1st year, Department of Microbiology), and Abdul Majed Bin Saeed (1st year, Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology).

2. Two underprivileged students from two departments under the Faculty of Social Sciences have been awarded Trust Fund scholarships of Tk. 25,000 each, totaling Tk. 50,000. They received this scholarship from the 'Md. Munirul Islam - Shamsunnahar Begum Trust Fund' established at the University of Dhaka. The Vice-Chancellor handed over the scholarship cheques to the students as the Chief Guest at a ceremony. The scholarship recipients are: Md. Subhan Ali Hridoy (1st year, Department of Public Administration) and Md. Sihab Pradhan (1st year, Department of Population Sciences).

3. The capital of the 'Sayed Abdul Hai Memorial Trust Fund' has been increased. To increase the capital, the Chairman of the Department of Philosophy handed over a cheque for Tk. 1,45,000 to the Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the donor family. With this donation, the Trust Fund's capital has risen to Tk. 3 lakh. It is noted that from the income of this Trust Fund, the two students securing the highest CGPA in the 1st year Undergraduate Programme examination of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Dhaka will be awarded a one-time scholarship of Tk. 12,000 each every year.

4. Five students from the Department of Chinese Language and Culture at the University of Dhaka have secured 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in the 24th Chinese Language Proficiency Competition titled 'Chinese Bridge'. This university-level competition was recently held at North South University. The Vice-Chancellor congratulated the winning students. A reception was held for the brilliant students at the Vice-Chancellor's office. It is noted that the first prize winner, Md. Bappi Sheikh, will participate in the international-level "Chinese Bridge" competition to be held in China and will get the opportunity to study in China with a scholarship.

5. For the first time, 50 meritorious students from the 1st year Undergraduate Program of the Law Department have been awarded the 'Muhammad Shah Alam' scholarship. The Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) handed over the scholarship money to the students as the Chief Guest. This scholarship is funded by Dhaka University Law Department alumnus Alhaj Advocate Md. Shah Alam. Students were awarded this one-time scholarship of Tk. 10,000 each.

6. The Syed Mahmudul Haq ICT and Innovation Lab and a Smart Classroom were inaugurated in the Department of Japanese Studies. The Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, Mr. Saida Shinichi, inaugurated the lab and classroom as the Chief Guest at a ceremony in the departmental auditorium.

7. 41 meritorious students from various departments under the Faculty of Arts have been awarded the 'Faculty of Arts Centenary Trust Fund Scholarship'. The scholarship cheques were handed over to the students at a ceremony held at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building. The ceremony was attended by the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration), the Treasurer, the current and former Deans of the Faculty of Arts, and the Chairmen, teachers, and students of various departments.

8. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka discussed with the Ambassador of Palestine to Bangladesh regarding various matters, including the admission and provision of scholarships for Palestinian students at the University of Dhaka. At this time, the Ambassador sought the cooperation of the University of Dhaka authorities in providing scholarships to Palestinian students. The Vice-Chancellor assured that all possible measures would be taken to provide scholarships to Palestinian students.

SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being

1. A) A permanent dustbin has been constructed on the east side of Jasim Uddin Hall for waste management. Considering the health risks to students, it was built at a location far from the student rooms and necessary measures have been taken to prevent garbage stench.

2. A one-month Yoga program has been organized at Sufia Kamal Hall to ensure physical and mental health services for students. A non-resident student of the hall was provided with financial educational assistance from the hall fund under special consideration.

3. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the University of Dhaka and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) to improve healthcare services at the university. The Vice-Chancellor was present as the Chief Guest. According to the MoU, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) will provide technical and financial assistance to the University of Dhaka for the renovation of the Shaheed Buddhijibi Dr. Mohammad Mortaza Medical Centre, installing an Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) to enhance research capacity, and establishing modern medical equipment for improved diagnosis and therapeutic services. Furthermore, TIKA will supply a modern ambulance for providing emergency medical services and patient transport.

4. A seminar titled “Sensor Data Analytics with Wearables and mm-Wave Radars for Digital Health” was held at the Institute of Statistical Research and Training (ISRT).

SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

1. A seminar titled “Perovskite Solar Cell: Introduction, Mechanism, Technology development on lab-scale” was held at the Energy Institute. The keynote paper was presented by a Research Assistant from the Center for Advanced Research in Sciences. The seminar was chaired by the Director of the Institute.

2. A seminar titled “Introduction to Solar Cell and SCAPS-1D (Part-1): Prerequisites for publication on the technological and knowledge implications of Solar Cells” was held at the Energy Institute. Chaired by the Director of the Institute, the keynote paper was presented by a Research Assistant of the Institute.

3. A seminar titled “Seminar on Semiconductor Industry: Introduction to Integrated Circuit” was held at the Energy Institute. The keynote paper was presented by Wei Liu, Vice President of the Hubei Semiconductor Industry Association and Chairman of the Professorial Committee of the School of Integrated Circuits at Wuhan University. The seminar was chaired by the Director of the Energy Institute.

4. A student team under the MRET program of the Energy Institute visited a 60 MW Wind Power Plant located in Cox's Bazar. The team, led by the Director of the Energy Institute, consisted of a total of 37 people, including teachers, students, and office staff.

5. As part of an educational tour, the Energy Institute team visited the 20 MW Solar Power Plant of Teknaf Solartech Limited (TSEL). During this time, students gained practical knowledge about the functionality of solar panels, inverter systems, grid connection technology, and production capacity.

6. Two meetings of the Institute's Development Committee were held. The meetings were chaired by the Director of the Institute. The committee members conducted a spot inspection of the institute's development activities (Civil finishing and electric work at Energy Institute, University of Dhaka). During the inspection, they observed the progress of the work, expressed satisfaction regarding the quality, pace, and overall progress of the work, and held a detailed discussion on the design (drawing/designing) of the southern part of the institute's building.

SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

1. The 'Turtle Bot' team from the University of Dhaka became the champion and the 'IHABOT' team became the runners-up in the university-level project showcase competition at the RoboTronics Fest. The Treasurer of the University of Dhaka was present as the Chief Guest at the festival's closing and award ceremony. The Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) inaugurated the festival as the Chief Guest. The festival featured competitions on various challenges related to soccer robots, line follower robots, micromouse, and artificial intelligence, along with various project exhibitions. The Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering of the University of Dhaka organized this two-day festival. It is noted that 200 teams from 50 schools, colleges, and universities across the country participated in this festival. About 900 students participated in various competitions of this two-day festival.

2. A seminar titled “Remote Interactions Through 2D Layered Materials” was held on the initiative of the Center for Advanced Research in Sciences. The keynote paper was presented by Dr. Shinichiro Mouri, Associate Professor of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Japan's Ritsumeikan University.

3. Discussions were held between the Faculty of Pharmacy and Beacon Pharmaceutical Limited regarding mutual cooperation in academic and various research-related matters. The meeting was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy along with teachers and representatives of Beacon Pharmaceutical Limited.

SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

2. For the first time in 50 years, the orientation camp of the Dhaka University Rover Scout Group was held outside the university campus. A three-day "Annual Camping and Orientation Ceremony" was held at the Rover Scout Training Center in Bahadurpur, Gazipur. The President of the Dhaka University Rover Scout Group, the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration), inaugurated the program as the Chief Guest. The three-day camp featured various programs including training, cultural performances, outdoor activities, and the orientation of 130 rover scouts.

SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

1. A discussion meeting titled 'Contribution of Professor Dr. Ahmad Shamsul Islam to the Development of Biotechnology in Bangladesh' was held in the Department of Botany. The Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) was present as the Chief Guest at the event. The Bangladesh Association for Plant Tissue Culture & Biotechnology organized this event.

2. A 13-member delegation, led by Mr. Sun Yong, Vice Governor of China's Anhui Province, held discussions with the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Dhaka on launching joint collaborative education and research activities between the University of Dhaka and various Chinese universities in Science and Technology, Biotechnology, and Artificial Intelligence.

3. A meeting was held with Emeritus Professor Dr. Kenichi Kubota from Japan's Kansai University. The exchange of teachers, students, and researchers between the two universities was also discussed in the meeting. Later, the Japanese Emeritus Professor delivered a lecture titled “Learning Assessment in the age of AI” at the Institute of Education and Research, University of Dhaka.

4. 19 youth representatives from Sri Lanka visited the Applied Democracy Lab at the University of Dhaka and exchanged views with the students of the University of Dhaka. In the discussion, the youth from both countries discussed democracy, youth leadership, and cultural exchange. The youth delegation included students from various universities in Sri Lanka and several members of the Youth Parliament.

5. A Ph.D. seminar titled “Right Base Approach Community Participation and Ownership in Sustainable Development of Bangladesh” was held in the Department of Political Science.

SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals

1. A meeting was held between the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka and professors from Turkey to strengthen joint collaborative education and research activities.

2. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka held a discussion with the Vice President of China's Peking University to strengthen ongoing joint collaborative education and research activities in science, technology, environment, language, and culture. The meeting also discussed the exchange of teachers, students, and cultural troupes between the two universities. Furthermore, they exchanged views on signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Dhaka and Peking University to enhance education and research cooperation.

3. A seminar titled 'Harnessing the Youth Dividend: Strategic Imperatives for Bangladesh in a Changing World' was held on the initiative of the Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka. At the inaugural session of the day-long seminar, the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) spoke as the Chief Guest and the High Commissioner of the Maldives to Bangladesh spoke as the Special Guest. The seminar was organized with the cooperation of the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS).

4. A five-day training program titled 'B-TopCS Program - Digital Forensic Course Training of Trainers (ToT)' was held in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. This training program was organized with the cooperation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Bangladesh Computer Council. The training program was attended by expert teachers in Digital Forensics from various public and private universities, officials from crime investigation departments of Bangladesh, and IT officials from various government/private organizations including Bangladesh Bank.

5. An international conference titled 'International Conference Explores the Resilience of Char Land Communities in Bangladesh' was held on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Community Development Journal (CDJ) published by Oxford University Press. The Vice-Chancellor was the Chief Guest at the event held in the conference room of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).
