University of Dhaka – Carbon Neutrality Target 2030 (SDG 2024 Report)

Introduction
The University of Dhaka (DU) recognizes the urgent need to address climate change and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In line with SDG 13: Climate Action, DU has set a target to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.

Target
The University of Dhaka aims to become carbon neutral by 2030, following the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol standards.

Scope
This target applies to the main campus, affiliated facilities, and all operational activities including academic, administrative, residential, and research operations.

Key Actions

  • Reduce energy consumption and improve energy efficiency across campus operations.
  • Increase the use of renewable energy to minimize emissions.
  • Reduce emissions from transportation, waste, and water management.
  • Promote sustainable construction, procurement, and campus practices.
  • Engage students, faculty, and staff in climate action initiatives.
  • Collaborate with DU’s Renewable Energy Institute and other relevant organizations for technical support.

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Conduct annual GHG inventories following the GHG Protocol.
  • Track progress and report outcomes in the SDG 2024 framework.
