Purpose
The University of Dhaka adopts a smoke-free policy to ensure a healthy and safe academic environment. This policy aims to protect the physical and mental well-being of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Policy & Guidelines
1. No Smoking Across Campus
- Smoking is strictly prohibited in all indoor and outdoor areas, including classrooms, residence halls, libraries, canteens, sports fields, roads, and gardens.
- As per government health regulations, no designated smoking areas will be provided.
2. Responsibilities of Students, Staff, and Visitors
- Students, faculty, staff, and visitors must refrain from using cigarettes, e-cigarettes, or any tobacco products on campus.
- Violators of the policy will receive warnings and, if necessary, administrative action will be taken.
3. Awareness and Training
- The University will regularly organize workshops, seminars, and campaigns to raise awareness about the harmful effects of smoking.
- Anti-smoking posters and informational materials will be displayed in halls, departments, and laboratories.
4. Policy Implementation and Monitoring Committee
- A “Smoke-Free University Committee” will be established to:
- Oversee the implementation of the policy
- Report any violations of the policy
- Plan and execute awareness campaigns
- Submit an annual report on policy effectiveness to the University Syndicate
Conclusion
Following government health policies and World Health Organization guidelines, the University of Dhaka will maintain a smoke-free campus. This policy ensures the health of students, well-being of staff, and a safe academic environment.
