The University of Dhaka, established in 1921 as Bangladesh’s premier higher education institution, continues its strong commitment to promoting inclusive, high-quality, and lifelong learning opportunities aligned with SDG 4.
4.2.1 Teacher Qualification Indicator (2024)
In 2024, a total of 5,420 students graduated from the University. Which are recognized qualifications for primary-level teaching. This reflects the University’s contribution to preparing qualified educators for the national education system.
4.3.1 Public Resources for Lifelong Learning
The Dhaka University Library operates under a comprehensive set of rules ensuring wide access for students, researchers, graduates, and external users. With extended opening hours, borrowing privileges, reading room facilities, and structured governance by the Library Committee, the institution significantly supports lifelong learning and public engagement in knowledge resources.
4.3.2 Public Educational Events
Throughout 2024, the University organized major public-facing academic events such as the “1st Development Studies International Conference 2024,” the “Research Publication Fair 2024,” seminars on case-based teaching, marketing department Golden Jubilee programs, and an International Symposium on climate crisis and the arts. These events provided learning opportunities to students, professionals, and the wider community.
4.3.3 Vocational and Certificate Training
Dhaka University offered multiple short courses and certificate programs, including language certification through the Institute of Modern Languages and the “Climate Change & Public Health” certificate course by the Department of Disaster Science and Climate Resilience. These programs enhanced professional skills and expanded access to lifelong learning.
4.3.4 Educational Outreach Beyond Campus
Outreach initiatives were undertaken by various units, including the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies, which disseminated research outputs to communities and policymakers. The Centre for China Studies organized exchange programs and public communication initiatives, while the Research Publication Fair and IQAC events further extended the University’s educational influence beyond the campus.
4.3.5 Lifelong Learning Access Policy
The University maintains a strong inclusivity and equal-access policy ensuring that all educational activities and facilities are available without discrimination. Mechanisms for reporting grievances, disability support, awareness programs, and continuous monitoring help maintain a safe and supportive learning environment for all.
4.4.1 First-Generation Students (2024)
In 2024, 5,906 students enrolled in degree programs. A portion of these were first-generation learners, highlighting the University’s role in expanding higher education access.
