Dhaka University has publicly pledged to transition its entire campus toward 100% renewable energy, positioning itself as a national leader in sustainable energy transformation. The pledge, first announced in 2021, outlines the University’s vision to become the country’s first fully solar-powered campus, replacing conventional grid electricity with clean, renewable sources.

This commitment has since been reinforced through the approval of DU’s long-term masterplan in 2025, which includes a three-phase infrastructural transformation carried out over fifteen years. The plan incorporates major investments in solar energy systems across academic buildings, residential halls, administrative units, and open spaces suitable for renewable installations. As these phases progress, the University will integrate solar rooftop systems, energy-efficient architectural designs, and renewable-ready infrastructure to shift toward full sustainability gradually.

By making this pledge public and embedding it into its official planning documents, Dhaka University demonstrates a forward-looking approach that aligns institutional growth with global renewable energy goals. The ongoing implementation of its masterplan will enable DU to showcase how large public institutions in developing countries can responsibly accelerate the adoption of clean energy solutions.
