National Renewable Energy Conference & Green Expo 2024 (Energy Workshops at DU)

In May 2024, the Institute of Energy, University of Dhaka, in collaboration with Greentech Foundation Bangladesh, organised the 24th National Conference and Green Expo on renewable energy.

  • The two‑day event brought together industry leaders, researchers, policymakers, and experts to discuss renewable energy investment, policy frameworks, and clean energy technologies.
  • Participants from industry and government engaged with DU academics in knowledge exchange and strategy discussions that aimed to support sustainable energy transitions and cleaner industrial practices.

📌 This event served as a direct service to local stakeholders and industry professionals, helping them understand renewable energy opportunities and policy frameworks for cleaner energy adoption.

Institute of Energy’s Renewable & Energy Efficiency Outreach

The Institute of Energy at DU conducts ongoing initiatives related to clean and renewable energy technologies:

  • Demonstration of renewable energy systems (e.g., solar panels, small wind turbines) for hands‑on learning.
  • Hosting visitors (including students from other institutions) to learn about clean energy technologies and energy conservation practices.
  • Facilitating discussions between researchers, policymakers, and industry on sustainable energy use and energy poverty solutions.

Though not exclusively 2024 workshops, these activities form part of DU’s energy efficiency outreach and direct community engagement that benefit local industry by spreading awareness and knowledge on clean energy implementation.

ILET‑Industry Training & Skill Development (Leather Sector)

The Institute of Leather Engineering and Technology (ILET) at DU collaborates with national training programmes aimed at improving sustainability knowledge and industry performance:

  • A Memorandum of Understanding with Skills for Industry Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (SICIP) (Ministry of Finance) enables free industry‑oriented training on compliance, sustainability, automation, and lean manufacturing for leather sector workers and professionals, which indirectly supports energy‑efficient and environmentally responsible practices.

While the main rollout is post‑2024, this partnership was formalised around 2024 and supports industry capacity building with environmental and energy efficiency training components.

📌 Summary (2024)

In 2024, Dhaka University supported local industry and stakeholders in energy efficiency and clean energy primarily through:

  • A major renewable energy conference & expo at DU bringing industry and policymakers together.
  • Ongoing energy institute demonstrations and outreach that educate industry and communities about renewable systems and energy efficiency.
  • Formalisation of industry training collaborations focused on sustainability and efficient practices in key industrial sectors.

These activities represent DU’s commitment to providing direct services to local industry aimed at improving clean energy use, renewable energy awareness, and energy efficiency knowledge.
