Conservation and sustainable utilisation of the oceans (events)

The University has ongoing institutional engagement in marine science and regional research partnerships that contribute to sustainable use and understanding of marine ecosystems:

  • DU has a strategic collaboration with China’s First Institute of Oceanography (FIO) covering joint work on marine disasters, ocean modelling, ecosystem monitoring, ocean forecasting, marine biotechnology, etc.
  • Faculty members participated in high-level sessions at the national conference “Ocean Prosperity: Catalyzing Blue Economy in Bangladesh” in 2024, shaping discussions on marine health and sustainable ocean economy.
These activities support marine science capacity and policy dialogue, though they are academic/research-oriented rather than direct community outreach events.
  • The Department of Zoology and Dhaka University Nature Conservation Club (DUNCC) hosted Save The Frogs Day 2024 on May 27, 2024, bringing students and conservationists together for ecosystem awareness activities.
  • This type of event promotes ecosystem conservation values, though it is focused on amphibians and general biodiversity rather than oceans or marine resources.
