The University of Dhaka provides a range of healthy and affordable food choices for all members of the campus community, including students, staff, and non-residential visitors. The university ensures that nutritional needs are met through a combination of subsidised residential hall dining, campus canteens, and food courts, making balanced meals accessible to everyone on campus.
All residential halls serve balanced meals consisting of rice, lentils, seasonal vegetables, leafy greens, and protein sources such as fish or eggs. Meals are offered at highly subsidised rates, ensuring affordability for students from low-income backgrounds. Special dietary needs and cultural or religious preferences are also accommodated; for example, Jagannath Hall provides vegetarian meals consistently to meet the requirements of Hindu and other non-Muslim students.
On the wider campus, multiple canteens and food courts provide nutritious and healthy food options, including fruits, juices, and other wholesome meals, alongside general meal offerings. These facilities are accessible to non-residential students, staff, and visitors, ensuring that healthy food choices are available beyond the residential halls.
In addition to affordability and accessibility, the university emphasises fresh and locally sourced ingredients, supporting both nutritional quality and environmental sustainability. Staff and student feedback is regularly incorporated into menu planning to improve variety and balance, while emergency support mechanisms allow hall authorities to provide meals for students facing sudden financial difficulties.
Through this integrated approach—combining subsidised hall meals, campus canteens, food courts, and emergency provisions—the University of Dhaka ensures that all members of the campus community have access to healthy, affordable, and culturally appropriate food, contributing directly to nutrition, wellbeing, and inclusivity.
