The University of Dhaka actively organises events to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, skills, and research outcomes between its faculty and local farmers and food producers. These events aim to enhance agricultural productivity, promote sustainable farming practices, and strengthen food security.
In 2024, the university hosted a major research fair that brought together stakeholders from various related fields, including agriculture, fisheries, nutrition, and environmental science. This large-scale event provided a platform for knowledge sharing, practical demonstrations, and networking, enabling farmers, fish producers, and local food practitioners to interact directly with university researchers and gain access to the latest scientific findings and best practices.
In addition to large-scale events, the university regularly conducts seminars, workshops, and training programmes through departments and institutes such as the Institute of Nutrition and Food Science, Department of Fisheries, Department of Botany, Department of Zoology, Department of Oceanography, and Department of Soil, Water and Environment. Faculty members serve as resource persons, providing hands-on training and guidance tailored to the needs of local communities. Demonstration farms and experimental plots are used to translate research into practical techniques, allowing farmers and food producers to adopt improved methods in crop cultivation, aquaculture, and sustainable resource management.
Through these multifaceted initiatives, the University of Dhaka ensures that local farmers and food producers have consistent access to research-based knowledge and practical support, fostering sustainable and resilient food systems at the national level.
