Building on brownfield sites (in place by 2024)

University of Dhaka prioritizes the development of new buildings and major infrastructure projects on brownfield sites, effectively utilizing previously developed or underused land to minimize environmental impact and preserve greenfield areas. Key examples include:

  • Officers’ Tower: Constructed on a previously underutilized campus site with modern facilities.
  • Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences building: Developed on existing brownfield plots to ensure minimal disturbance to open spaces.
  • Faculty of Social Sciences and adjoining chottor: New building and open areas were planned on pre-existing sites.
  • Jagannath Hall new building: Rebuilt on previously developed campus land to accommodate growing student numbers efficiently.
  • Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall new building: Constructed on a brownfield site to provide modern residential facilities for students.
  • Other student accommodations and administrative buildings: Wherever possible, new construction projects are located on brownfield sites to reduce campus sprawl and maintain the ecological and historical integrity of the university grounds.

Through this approach, University of Dhaka ensures sustainable campus development, optimal land use, and preservation of open and green spaces, aligning with responsible urban planning practices.
