Access and Participation Policy for Women

1. Introduction

Women’s participation in higher education is an essential component of building a sustainable and equitable society. The purpose of this policy is to ensure women’s applications, admissions, participation, and success at the University, while fostering a gender-equitable environment where women feel safe, encouraged, and empowered.

 

2. Objectives

  1. Increase women’s application rates to the University.
  2. Ensure active participation of women in academic and administrative activities.
  3. Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for female students.
  4. Prevent gender-based disparities in admissions, scholarships, and other opportunities.
  5. Encourage women’s retention in education and their development into leadership roles.

 

3. Policy Guidelines

3.1 Admissions and Outreach

  • Special campaigns will be conducted to increase women’s participation in admissions.
  • Information sessions and counselling services will be provided for women from rural, marginalized, and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Accessible application processes for female students will be ensured through both online and offline platforms.

 

3.2 Scholarships and Financial Support

  • Special scholarships or tuition fee waivers will be available for female students.
  • Targeted grants will be provided to encourage women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields.

 

3.3 Safety and Facilities

  • Campus safety for female students will be ensured through CCTV, help desks, and designated women’s hostels.
  • Separate rest areas, sanitary facilities, and maternity support (where applicable) will be provided for female students.

 

3.4 Academic Participation and Leadership

  • Targets will be set to ensure women’s participation in classrooms, clubs, committees, and research activities.
  • Mentorship programs and training workshops will be organized to develop women’s leadership.

 

3.5 Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Annual reviews of women’s applications, admissions, participation, and graduation rates will be conducted, and reports will be prepared.
  • The Gender Equity Monitoring Committee will oversee the implementation of this policy.

 

4. Indicators

  • Percentage of female applicants
  • Number of female students admitted
  • Female students’ attendance and graduation rates
  • Women’s participation in leadership positions
  • Survey results on women’s safety and satisfaction

 

5. Review and Update

This policy will be reviewed and updated every three years to ensure its relevance and effectiveness.
