Introduction
The University of Dhaka rejects all forms of discrimination based on gender, religion, race, sexual orientation or expression, age, disability, or any other identity or condition.
Students, teachers, officers, or staff members who report incidents of discrimination, harassment, or misconduct shall not face any academic, professional, or administrative disadvantage as a result of filing such reports.
Objectives
- To collect and process reports of discrimination or harassment confidentially and safely.
- To ensure protection of reporters from any academic or professional retaliation.
- To promote and uphold a safe, fair, and inclusive learning and working environment.
Scope
This policy applies to:
- All students, teachers, officers, and employees of the University of Dhaka.
- All stages of university activity, including admissions, academic programs, examinations, employment, promotion, and other administrative processes.
Policy Commitments
1. Confidentiality
- The identity of any individual filing a report shall be kept strictly confidential.
- Information related to the case will be shared only with investigating authorities and relevant administrative bodies.
2. Protection of Academic and Professional Standing
- No student, teacher, or employee shall suffer any academic disadvantage or job-related consequences as a result of filing a report.
- Retaliation, harassment, or intimidation against the reporter is strictly prohibited.
3. Reporting and Redress Mechanisms
- Any student, teacher, or employee who experiences discrimination may submit a written complaint to the relevant university authority.
- The authority shall take appropriate and timely action to investigate and resolve the complaint.
- In addition, complaints may be submitted to the Designated Complaint Redress Officer (Ombudsperson) of the University of Dhaka.
- Necessary protective measures may include flexible class/work schedules, reassignment, or psychosocial support to safeguard the complainant’s wellbeing.
4. Investigation and Accountability
- All complaints shall be investigated in an impartial, confidential, and timely manner.
- The complainant will be kept informed about the progress and outcome of the investigation.
- If allegations are proven, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with university rules and regulations.
5. Awareness and Training
- Regular training and awareness programs shall be organized for teachers, officers, and students.
- Orientation and communication activities shall be undertaken to promote understanding of whitelisting, reporting procedures, and protection measures under this policy.
Monitoring and Review
- The Designated Complaint Redress Officer (Ombudsperson) will regularly monitor the implementation and effectiveness of this policy.
The policy and its implementation outcomes shall be reviewed at least once annually and updated as necessary.
