Recognising that fathers’ involvement in childcare iscrucial to women’s sustained participation in the workforce and higher education, DU has adopted a Paternity Leave Policy effective from 1 July 2024:
Eligibility: Male employees who have completed at least one year of probation
Entitlement: Up to 5 days of paid paternity leave per childbirth, applicable for two births
Alignment with anticipated future government legislation on paternity leave
By explicitly enabling men to participate in early childcare, DU helps redistribute care responsibilities and indirectly strengthens women’s ability to remain in teaching, research, and administrative roles.
