1. Introduction
The University of Dhaka is deeply committed to gender equality and inclusive education. It recognizes that women’s likelihood of graduating may, in some instances, be lower compared to their male peers due to social, economic, or structural barriers. The University therefore undertakes effective measures to ensure equal opportunities for all students and to minimize any gender-based disparities in academic outcomes.
2. Objectives
- To regularly monitor women’s graduation rates.
- To identify and design effective strategies to close any existing gender gaps.
- To ensure equal academic opportunities and outcomes for all students.
3. Scope
This policy applies to:
- All academic programs: Undergraduate, Postgraduate, MPhil, and Ph.D.
- All Departments and Institutes of the University of Dhaka.
4. Monitoring and Data Collection
- Gender-disaggregated data collection across all academic stages — admission, registration, coursework, examinations, and graduation.
- Annual analysis comparing women’s graduation rates with those of male students.
- Reporting through the preparation of an annual report summarizing findings and recommendations.
5. Measures to Close the Gender Gap
- Mentoring Scheme: At least 10% of female students will be provided opportunities to participate in structured mentoring programs.
- Flexible Learning: Academic flexibility (e.g., rescheduling classes or exams) will be offered to students affected by maternity, health, or family responsibilities.
- Scholarships and Financial Support: Dedicated funds will be created to provide financial assistance to female students in need.
- Awareness and Training: Faculty members and administrative staff will receive gender-sensitivity training to promote an inclusive and supportive academic environment.
- Review and Evaluation: The effectiveness of these measures will be evaluated at least once a year.
6. Evaluation Indicators
- Women’s graduation rate (%) compared to men’s.
- Percentage of female students participating in mentoring programs.
- Number of female students receiving scholarships or financial support.
- Number of students utilizing flexible learning options.
7. Monitoring and Updating
- The Central Admission Committee and the Registrar’s Office (Academic-2) will jointly oversee the implementation and progress of this policy.
- The policy and its associated measures will be reviewed and updated annually based on collected data and evaluation outcomes.
